Susan Stairs

Susan Stairs has had a keen interest in art since early childhood. She attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin for four years – studying Visual Communications – and graduated in 1983. Susan and her husband opened The George Gallery in 1986, which specialised in Irish Art. Susan is an artist as well as an artist’s biographer and she has researched and written major publications which were produced to accompany the main exhibitions they held at The George Gallery. These included: “Maryey Robinson, A Life -The Retrospective” (pub.1988, re-published 1998 in hardback) “Gladys Maccabe, A Life of Art – The Retrospective” (pub. 1989) & “The Irish Figurists” (pub. 1990 in hardback). In the last five years. Susan has returned to painting. She likes to paint children at play on the beach or in a parkland setting. Her medium is oil paints. She has exhibited in the following Galleries: The Lee Gallery, Cork The Bin Ban Gallery, Kerry The Clifden Art Gallery, Galway The Art & Print Gallery, Slane. The Waldock Gallery, Blackrock, Tresures, Athlone, Co.Westmeath & Gallery 4, Sandymount.
